In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, Fully Charged, a leading specialist eBike retailer, stepped up to provide vital support to NHS workers in London. Recognising the challenges of commuting safely during the height of the crisis, we launched an initiative to loan electric bikes to frontline healthcare workers, free of charge.
Starting on March 30, 2020, Fully Charged offered over 20 state-of-the-art eBikes on a three-month loan at no cost. These eBikes provided NHS staff with a safe, efficient, and healthy alternative to public transport, minimising their exposure to crowded environments while enabling them to travel quickly and reliably to their workplaces. The bikes, complete with commuting essentials such as lights, mudguards, and locks, ensured doctors and nurses could focus on their critical roles without worrying about their daily commute.
This initiative was made possible thanks to our industry partners, with Gocycle being the first to contribute. The company generously provided 20 of its Gocycle GS models, each retailing at £1,999, at no cost. These lightweight, high-performance electric bikes proved to be the perfect solution for NHS staff, combining ease of use with the power to handle longer journeys.
Our team at Fully Charged worked tirelessly to ensure every bike was ready for use. From assembly to pre-delivery inspections, our trained mechanics prepared each eBike to the highest standards before delivering them directly to NHS staff across London. Despite the challenges of operating during a pandemic, our commitment to supporting the country’s key workers never wavered.
Dan Parsons, Director of Operations at Fully Charged, highlighted the importance of this initiative: “Cycling offered NHS workers a viable and safer alternative to public transport, especially during a time when maintaining health and wellbeing was paramount. We’re incredibly grateful to our partners, like Gocycle, for making this possible and hope the rest of the industry will join us in supporting our healthcare heroes.”
The success of this initiative was a testament to the collaborative spirit of the cycling industry and the determination of businesses like Fully Charged to make a positive impact during unprecedented times. By providing eBikes to NHS staff, we aimed to alleviate some of the pressures they faced and demonstrate our gratitude for their extraordinary efforts.
This project was just one example of Fully Charged’s commitment to promoting sustainable, innovative transport solutions and supporting our community when it needed it most. We remain inspired by the resilience and dedication of our NHS workers and are proud to have played a small part in their journey during such challenging times.
