For years, the Delite has set the benchmark for premium full-suspension eBikes – and the new Delite5 takes that even further. It’s still full-suspension, still beautifully engineered, but now built around something entirely new: the Pinion Motor.Gearbox.Unit (MGU).
This new system brings together power and gearing in a single sealed unit, creating a cleaner, simpler riding experience that quietly redefines what a high-performance eBike can be.
Introducing the Pinion MGU
The Pinion MGU replaces the traditional mid-drive motor and derailleur setup with an all-in-one motor and gearbox, housed in a compact unit at the centre of the bike. It’s powered by a 12-speed gearbox with a huge 600% gear range – giving you plenty of flexibility for climbs, descents and everything in between.
Because it’s fully enclosed, there’s no derailleur to bend, no cassette to wear out, and no chain to oil. Instead, it’s paired with a Gates Carbon Belt Drive – quiet, clean, and basically maintenance-free.
You can shift while stationary, under load, or while coasting. It’s smooth, fast, and has a totally different feel to a derailleur-based eBike – in the best possible way.
Suspension, comfort and control
Like its predecessors, the Delite5 is built around Riese & Müller's Control Technology, which includes front and rear suspension (Fox AWL fork and Fox Float shock) and a suspended rear luggage rack. This keeps the ride stable and comfortable, even when you’re carrying gear or heading off-road.
It’s the kind of bike that irons out poor road surfaces and handles long days in the saddle without fuss. The geometry sits you in a naturally upright position, and the dropper post makes it easy to adjust for different riders or to step on and off with ease.
Riding with John Amaechi
We recently took a morning ride with John Amaechi, who’s been riding a Riese & Müller for a few years now. He was one of the first in the UK to try the new Delite5.
For John Ameachi, it’s part of a daily ritual. “This gave me my freedom back,” he says. “I can ride before work, get my heart rate up, and feel good – even if the hill is steep.” The combination of Bosch’s Performance Line CX motor and 800Wh battery gives him the confidence to explore further, knowing he’ll always make it home.
It’s not about going fast. It’s about finding time to switch off, even if only for an hour. As John explains, “The ride is the reset. Sometimes I’ll take the longer, more scenic way just to decompress a little more.”
